About Beth
Dr Beth Vella (she/her)

Beth is a Clinical Psychologist with over 25 years’ experience providing psychological therapy to adults aged 18 upwards experiencing a wide range of issues. Beth has a particular interest in helping people who have experienced trauma and are living with the effects of this on their mental health, physical health and personal relationships.
Beth offers a collaborative approach to therapy, which respects and values the strengths and resources that each person brings to their journey toward healing and wellbeing. Beth integrates evidence-based knowledge with creativity and flexibility to develop a treatment plan suited to each person’s unique, individual needs.
Beth draws upon interventions from a range of therapeutic approaches including: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. Beth delivers these with warmth, compassion and, at times, humour!

Beth has successfully worked with the following issues:
- Mood issues: depression, unstable moods, difficulties in regulating emotions
- Anxiety issues: general anxiety, chronic worry, stress, phobias, social anxiety
- Panic attacks
- Trauma: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), complex trauma, coping with traumatic memories
- Physical health issues: persistent pain, fibromyalgia, chronic illness
- Adjustment to life changes: becoming a parent, relationship break down, life stage changes
- Grief and loss
- Self-worth, sense of self and identity issues
- Interpersonal issues: relationship challenges, family conflict, friendship issues
Training & Qualifications

Beth is endorsed as a specialist clinical psychologist with AHPRA. She is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and a fellow of the College of Clinical Psychologists. Beth trained and worked as a Clinical Psychologist in the UK before moving to Australia in 2001. She holds the following qualifications:
- Doctor of Clinical Psychology (University of North Wales, UK)
- Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Psychology (University of Nottingham, UK)
Beth has completed additional training in ACT, EMDR and sensorimotor psychotherapy and is currently undertaking further training in IFS. She attends training workshops every year as part of her professional development.
In addition to private practice, Beth has extensive experience working in public health settings in the UK and Australia. She currently works for Alfred Health in the Pain Management and Research Centre and Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit at Caulfield Hospital.
